dc.description.abstract | In 1975, the United Nations General Assembly equated Zionism with racism in their Resolution 3379. This decision was not an anomaly, but rather a product of the Cold War. Responding to political setbacks in the Middle East, the Soviet Union had long been propagating anti-Zionist rhetoric that was a blend of both Cold War politicization and latent anti-Semitism. This thesis examines both the political and prejudicial in order to emphasize the Cold War qualities of the resolution, as well as its impact on our modern vernacular. | |
